SIndex: Query Optimization and Access Control in a Semi-Structured Database

This thesis presents the Security Index, or SIndex, and describes how it can be used to implement access control and query optimization on an XML database. Also presented is how the SIndex has been implemented in the XML database management system call Berkeley DBXML, and how the DBMS with the SIndex performs compared to other commercial and research DBMS.
